Brad Ellis is a Texas-based artist whose focus is on abstract painting. Throughout his career, he has continually experimented with imagery from tightly rendered, systematic patterns to loosely constructed, expressionistic compositions. He has distinguished himself by embracing the ancient medium of encaustic which is hot wax painting and is a process by which heated beeswax is mixed with pigments and applied to board or canvas and then fused to the surface with a heat source. Brad approaches each new painting with the same consistency that he's employed for many years now which he referred to as “Pattern, Rhythm, and Process.” He typically starts each painting by building up layers of paper and/or fabric collage materials by cutting and mounting these pieces onto the canvas or board and arranging them in a way to form the underlying pattern of the painting. This helps lay the foundation for the initial imagery and paves the way for the applications of the other mediums.

"Snowmass Picnic," captured by Slim Aarons in January 1967 amid the pristine slopes of Snowmass-at-Aspen, Colorado, evokes the joyous camaraderie of alpine high society. This enchanting photograph portrays a stand-up fondue picnic for skiers, with hot food elegantly helicoptered in by Holiday magazine, where notable guests like Howard Head of the Head Ski Company, IBM president Thomas Watson Jr. and his wife Olive, Norwegian Olympic skier Stein Eriksen, and restaurateur Armando Orsini gather in the fresh snowfields, their laughter and stylish winter attire harmonizing with the vast trails of the newly opened village. The scene captures the heart of 1960s winter leisure, weaving adventurous spirit with refined indulgence, evoking a timeless romance that continues to enchant lovers of snowy escapades and sophisticated gatherings. Slim Aarons (1916–2006), born George Allen Aarons, rose from humble origins and World War II combat photography to become a celebrated chronicler of the elite, vowing post-war to photograph only "attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places," with his works gracing magazines like Town & Country and now preserved in the Getty Images archive. This exquisite reproduction from Soicher Marin is printed on premium luster photo paper using state-of-the-art techniques, ensuring vibrant colors, sharp details, and enduring quality that brings a touch of mid-century sophistication to any space.

Although born and raised in Los Angeles, artist Van Garrett has been heavily influenced by traveling abroad to a multitude of countries, especially Iceland. Music is a big part of his life and it sparked his creativity even before he began painting. In fact, Van did not begin painting until he was in college and he is self-taught. “Art was something that was always in my genes. It makes me happy. I believe that every artist leaves a piece of themselves in their artwork. In turn, it makes me happy when people get to own part of those pieces to share with the world.” Van prefers working in liquid acrylics and watercolors because of their fluidity. “I like how the colors flow. I like to observe how the different shapes and mixtures come alive.” Van finds animals, humans, and nature are his favorite subjects to paint. He is inspired by nature, people, and music. When not painting, Van runs marathons, travels and plays the guitar.

Jess has been painting with watercolors and oils on large canvases, small scraps of paper, and everything in between for as long as she can remember. She went to Savannah College of Art and Design, never thinking that one day she would “actually” become an artist. That took a bit longer to realize. But here she is, living the dream. Jess's mission is simple: to make beautiful work that makes people feel extraordinary. Her aesthetic is influenced by her African upbringing - using simple lines, rich colors, and organic shapes to capture life in every form. She believes the process is just as important as the outcome, when she's in a flow and she enjoys the process the work feels fresh, effortless, and alive. After she conceives a new idea she tries to spend some quality time with it - to let it sink in. Then usually the work comes out very quickly. If it doesn’t, she never forces it, she just goes outside for a bit, clears her head, and comes back later. It’s amazing what fresh air can do for perspective.

I had high hopes for this as I loved the composition and wanted some color in the hallway. Unfortunately, the print could have been better. This was partly my fault as the original piece is a collage with a combination of encaustic and cut up newspapers which in person would have great depth and luminosity. The print however flattens everything out and loses that quality, which I should have known it would. In addition, the piece has been reduced from it's original size, which is evident when looking at the newspaper clippings. All in all this work will be fine if located where it can be viewed from a distance, but is disappointing when when approached closely.. Eric. Los Angeles, CA. Sun Aug 11 2024

The artist, David Brown, studied and received his Fine Arts training at California State University of Long Beach and graduated with a BFA in Drawing and Painting in 2018. As a child, he watched his older brother draw and recalls wanting to draw just like him when he grew up. David currently lives in Long Beach, California, and has been lucky to show his work in multiple group shows and a few solo shows, mostly based in the Los Angeles area. His traditional work includes oil, charcoal, and graphite. He is strongly influenced by Renaissance, Baroque, and a lot of today’s contemporary work. David’s work is predominately focused on the human figure. “People are my inspiration. I love learning people’s stories and try to capture the sitter’s narrative through my drawings/ paintings …I love drawing people from life, I feel that my work focuses on the relationship between artist and model”. His art is his one true passion and he believes that, “Artists are super sensitive and emotional human beings, our work is a physical representation of our thoughts and emotions, a diary that we choose to share with the world”.
