Ivory Linen / Linen Blend Nature & Floral Fabric

Palampore is the Hindi word for bed hanging and refers to Indian printed textiles created for bed draperies in the eighteenth century. Such bed hangings were highly prized and featured a tree of life design with abundant flowers and pomegranates. Our new interpretation of this classic and graceful pattern is embroidered in colorful threads against a medium weight of linen.

Based on artwork hand-painted in our studio, Covey Hedge derives its flat stylized foliage from Japanese block prints and Persian miniatures. This early twentieth-century hand block print was discovered in an English archive and has been reproduced using the original woodblocks, which were first cut and printed in July 1924. The multicolored design is composed of 40 separate blocks and requires 80 blocks to complete one full meter of printing, and 1120 per table length. Its charming scenic design of English country life is freshly interpreted in new colorations for today’s interiors. Its all-over pattern and crisp linen ground make it a great option for curtains, chair upholstery, and decorative accents in great rooms, libraries, and bedrooms.

This lively hand block print was first created in 1922 and features a stylized tree of life of flowers and foliage. Each color within the design requires several blocks, for a total of 46 for each individual repeat, and the print uses 138 blocks to produce just one full-width yard of fabric.
