This iconic photograph captures American writer C.Z. Guest (Mrs F.C. Winston Guest, 1920 - 2003) and her son Alexander Michael Douglas Dudley Guest in front of their Grecian temple pool on the ocean-front estate, Villa Artemis, Palm Beach in January 1955. The image epitomizes the sophisticated leisure culture and refined elegance that defined Palm Beach's golden age as America's premier winter resort destination during the mid-1950s. Depicting one of America's classic beauties who was named to the International Best Dressed Hall of Fame List in 1959 in her element at the magnificent estate designed in 1916 by architect F. Burrall Hoffman, who also designed Villa Vizcaya, this photograph captures the essence of American high society at its most authentic and aspirational. The scene embodies the patrician beauty and sporty, outdoorsy aesthetic that defined socially registered enclaves like Palm Beach, where C.Z. Guest became a fashion icon with her unfussy, clean-cut style that was seen as typically American. This image represents the perfect synthesis of old-world architectural grandeur and new-world glamour that made Palm Beach the ultimate destination for America's social elite. Slim Aarons, renowned for his evocative photographs of, as he described it, "attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places," was the quintessential chronicler of high society. After serving as a war photographer, Aarons turned his lens to a new landscape: the glamorous lives of Hollywood elites, Palm Beach socialites, and jet-setting debutantes and princes. The artist, D’Alessandro Léon, was the youngest of three brothers. When art competitions were a form of play for the brothers, it later grew to his obsession. D’Alessandro attended the Art Institute of California where he explored mixing mediums as well as digital. He also attended illustration, sculpting, and fine art workshops. After spending long periods of time studying different techniques, D’Alessandro’s art became increasingly influenced by artists from the early 1900s. During D’Alessandro’s studies, he painted many different themes. He painted with restless intensity, often painting from morning until night. D’Alessandro was able to indulge his earliest artistic preferences for people, nature, architecture, and landscapes in his illustration and personal pieces.

Summers Greenery 1 is reminiscent of American Abstract Expressionist painter Helen Frankenthaler who was known for her major contributions to the history of postwar American painting. She developed her distinctive and innovative "soak-stain" technique in the early 1950s by pouring thinned oil paint directly onto a raw, unprimed canvas laid on the ground, allowing the colors to soak into the fabric. Summers Greenery 1, a large-scale, non-representational work on canvas, carries on that method by applying thinned layers of color to achieve both translucency and saturation. A wide swathe of thin paint extends across the top of the painting and has been allowed to drip down the canvas, another hallmark of Abstract Expressionism. Muted tones and pastels in sage, alabaster, and khaki, with splashes of cerulean and mustard, bring forward a contemplative mood in this original work of art on canvas. Part of the carefully curated and exclusive collection.
