Romantic Figures 2 is a series of six playful prints reminiscent of illustrated playing cards. The series is a delightful mash-up of early synthetic Cubist sentiments and bold German Expressionist figures. Synthetic Cubism of the early 20th century began to blur the boundaries between painting and sculpture by offering a new understanding of the pictorial surface. During the same time, German Expressionism broke traditional norms of representing the human figure. Romantic Figures 2 wonderfully embraces both artistic movements. This work features a regal raven-haired queen crowned with an expressive tiara.
