This iconic photograph captures Carmen Alvarez enjoying a game of backgammon with Frank 'Brandy' Brandstetter in a swimming pool at Acapulco in 1978. The image epitomizes the sophisticated leisure culture that defined Acapulco's golden age as Mexico's premier international resort destination during the late 1970s. Depicting a Hollywood actress and a hotelier moonlighting as a US intelligence officer enjoying a game of backgammon in a pool in Mexico, 'Keep Your Cool' is undeniably Aarons at his finest. This photograph captures the essence of tropical glamour at its most inventive, where the traditional parlor game of backgammon becomes an aquatic adventure in paradise. The image showcases the resort during its final golden years as one of America's premier mountain destinations, where bathers enjoyed the perfect combination of alpine grandeur and sophisticated hospitality that defined the Sierra Nevada's most celebrated luxury retreat. Bliss, who transformed Lake Tahoe into an international playground for discerning travelers seeking "primitive simplicity with twentieth century luxury." The scene represents the culmination of nearly sixty years of refined hospitality, where the Tahoe Tavern served as "the finest hostelry between San Francisco and the Rockies," attracting guests from across the United States and Europe who arrived via the resort's own narrow-gauge railroad and elegant steamship service to experience the unparalleled beauty of America's most spectacular alpine lake. Designed by Richard Neutra, the residence stands as a masterpiece of mid-century modern architecture, embodying the era’s fascination with clean lines, indoor-outdoor living, and harmony with the surrounding desert landscape. The gathering reflects a cultural moment when Palm Springs emerged as a playground for artists, actors, and tastemakers, offering a stylish retreat that blended sophistication with the relaxed rhythms of postwar California life. It evokes a timeless vision of elegance and ease, where architecture and lifestyle merged to define an unforgettable era. The artwork is framed in a single picture frame with a luxurious gold finish, crafted from quality wood that adds sophistication to any space. The hand-painted acrylic technique on paper ensures each piece is a testament to fine craftsmanship. With wall-mounting hardware included, it's ready to elevate your decor effortlessly.
I would have preferred to have an all white Matt finish around the perimeter and an off-white....there is a 1/4 inch matt border surrounding the primary edge of the print, followed by another 1/4 inch matt border in green, followed by another approximate 2 1/4 inch matt border in off-white. Although your website indicates only the large 2 1/4 inch matt border without any reference of the 2 smaller borders....It is the presence of the off-white that detracts from the overall look/success of the print. I feel the white border referenced in your website permits the overall print to stand out much more pronounced, as compared to the off-white which tends to mute the Japanese depiction of the village coastline. It's all in the details sadly. Gary. Winnabow, NC. Wed Aug 07 2024

This iconic photograph captures ladies by the pool at the Kaufmann Desert House in Palm Springs, California, January 1970. From right to left, former fashion model Helen Dzo Dzo Kaptur (in white lace), unknown, Nelda Linsk (in yellow), wife of art dealer Joseph Linsk, and actress Lita Baron (in the white sunhat). The Linsks are the current owners of the house. The image epitomizes the sophisticated leisure culture and Desert Modernism aesthetic that defined Palm Springs' golden age as Hollywood's exclusive desert playground during the early 1970s. Depicting stylish socialites enjoying a leisurely afternoon at Richard Neutra's architectural marvel designed in 1946 for Edgar J. Kaufmann, Sr., the house has been described as "an architectural marvel that helped define the modernist aesthetic of the resort city of Palm Springs," this photograph captures the essence of California's jet-set lifestyle at its most glamorous. The scene embodies the relaxed, moneyed allure of Palm Springs in the 60s and 70s, when it served as the perfect hideaway for the glitterati - close enough to the LA studios, far enough from the paparazzi's clicking cameras. This image represents the perfect fusion of modernist architecture and Hollywood glamour that made Palm Springs the ultimate desert retreat for America's cultural elite.
