In our first collaboration, acclaimed interior designers Mara Miller and Jesse Carrier and third-generation art house Soicher Marin present Open Studio, five collections that reflect Carrier and Company’s own sensibility and love of art. Jesse and Mara reflected on many of the show-stopping and impactful art pieces that we’ve selected for projects throughout the years as inspiration for this first collection with Soicher Marin. The Open Studio collection celebrates the artist at work and the magical transformations that occur when paint meets canvas. Influenced by countless artists past and present, this collection serves as a well-rounded view into the world of all things Carrier and Company.

Artist Commentary: This painting was done after visiting my local dog park, I love the gestures and personalities of dogs, each one is an individual.

Artist Commentary: "Sunnies No. 1" was the first painting in my "Shall I Cut My Ear Off" series. This painting had such a Van Gogh quality to it that I decided to paint a number of different sunflower paintings, all from a vase of sunflowers a friend brought me. This one ended up being my favorite of the series but I really enjoyed taking a break from my sea and landscape paintings, to focus on a series of sunflower paintings.

Artist Commentary: There is a rare sliver of time when the darkness turns to dawn and allows the land to still retain the shadow of the morning hours while the sky starts to spread its warmth. I'm a very early riser and I love the peace and quiet and combination of light and shadow that occurs as darkness turns to dawn.

Drawn from the celebrated Album Benary, PLATE I arranges an extraordinary company of peppers across a warm ivory ground. Squat ribbed specimens and slender cascading chillies, deep purple-black alongside blazing scarlet and golden yellow are evinced with the meticulous care of a nineteenth-century botanist who understood that the vegetable garden held its own form of majesty. Printed on fine art paper and presented in a black and silver frame with white slip and float glass, PLATE I stirs up the abundance of the harvest season into the interior with the mastery of a scientific document that happens to be magnificent.
