Artist Commentary: Hiking through a field recently I came upon this vibrant patch of wildflowers. They were so sunny and bright. Mother nature had created the perfect visual pathway to carry my eyes through this scene and I tried to capture that in this painting.

Artist Commentary: This painting was part of a series of paintings I did for a workshop I'm conducting. I love the pop of green in the background and the composition of this piece in general.

Artist Commentary: This piece was a commissioned piece for a client in the Santa Barbara, CA area. In addition to photos my client supplied me with, I knew I had to walk this land to really understand it. I did and can tell you that it is truly spectacular! I painted the first layer in deep magentas, purples and violets and you can see those peeking through the final piece. I love the pops of chartreuse and gold as well as the cooler colors in this painting. I told my client that if they weren't happy with it I had another buyer who really wanted it (ME!) but they loved it and now it sits over their fireplace and looks perfect in their home

Artist Commentary: I love winter in Southern California!!! After spending the last 35 winters in New England it is so good to finally be back home during winter. This painting started off as a quick study for a large 26x40 but I was having so much fun with it that it became more than a study. It sat semi finished on my easel for a few days and every time I walked by it I made a few more marks. That kept happening until I had this little gem of a painting.

Artist Commentary: As I was biking and hiking around Nantucket recently, I loved seeing all these little slivers of the sea from different vantage points. On this particular day of hiking, we were on a trail that should have led us right down to the sea but we wondered off trail and never quite made it there. Instead, I caught this little slice of heaven and knew I had to paint it.

Artist Commentary: I would love to live with an estuary in my front or backyard. If you've ever spent a morning watching the sun rise or set on an estuary, you know the music that emanates from within. Birds, insects, horseshoe crabs, the tide coming and going. There is just so much activity to absorb and it's one of my favorite places to spend a day. My favorite part of this painting is the water...the strokes, the color. It just all came together in this painting.

Artist Commentary: "Solitude" was exactly how I felt the day I walked through this meadow that held a grouping of trees standing tall up against a distant mountain. When I'm in the field (both literally and figuratively!) I tend to write down notes expressing how I feel so I can capture those feelings on my canvas when I'm back in my studio. In addition, these side notes also help transport me back to specific places in time, even years later, and help me to recreate what I felt in the moment.

Artist Commentary: This is the third painting I've created from a photo reference I took on the island of Nantucket in the village of Sconset. In this painting, I decided to paint the house as an elongated structure so that it resembled a barn. I am such a fan of how the bright flowers pop against the contrast of the cool colors of the structure.

Artist Commentary: I love a pond reflection and I love being out in nature. This painting is from a hike with friends in Tahoe, CA on a perfect day.....not too hot and not too cold. Really just perfect in every way.
