This iconic photograph captures Carmen Alvarez enjoying a game of backgammon with Frank 'Brandy' Brandstetter in a swimming pool at Acapulco in 1978. The image epitomizes the sophisticated leisure culture that defined Acapulco's golden age as Mexico's premier international resort destination during the late 1970s. Depicting a Hollywood actress and a hotelier moonlighting as a US intelligence officer enjoying a game of backgammon in a pool in Mexico, 'Keep Your Cool' is undeniably Aarons at his finest. This photograph captures the essence of tropical glamour at its most inventive, where the traditional parlor game of backgammon becomes an aquatic adventure in paradise. The scene represents the perfect fusion of sophistication and whimsy that characterized Acapulco's appeal to international jet-setters who appreciated both luxury and playfulness. This image embodies the carefree spirit and creative approach to leisure that made Acapulco a beloved escape for celebrities and socialites who sought unique experiences in settings of unparalleled natural beauty and refined hospitality. Slim Aarons, renowned for his evocative photographs of, as he described it, "attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places," was the quintessential chronicler of high society. After serving as a war photographer, Aarons turned his lens to a new landscape: the glamorous lives of Hollywood elites, Palm Beach socialites, and jet-setting debutantes and princes. His work for society publications captured an aspirational world of leisure and luxury that defined the American upper class throughout the mid-20th century, creating images that remain timeless symbols of sophistication and style. Every piece in our unique Slim Aarons collection is meticulously handcrafted using archival materials and printed on premium, luster photographic paper with environmentally safe inks, custom framed by skilled artisans who ensure that each work of art meets the exacting standards befitting such an iconic photograph.

Immerse yourself in the timeless allure of Slim Aarons' "Poolside Gossip," captured in January 1970 at the iconic Kaufmann Desert House in Palm Springs, California—a modernist masterpiece designed by architect Richard Neutra for department store magnate Edgar J. Kaufmann. This vibrant photograph depicts former model and homeowner Nelda Linsk (seated right, in a striking yellow outfit), wife of art dealer Joseph Linsk, engaged in lively conversation with her friend Helen Dzo Dzo Kaptur (left), as actress Lita Baron approaches from behind, cocktail in hand, against a backdrop of the sparkling turquoise pool, lush desert landscaping, and the majestic San Jacinto Mountains. Epitomizing the carefree glamour of mid-20th-century high society, the un-staged scene reflects the era's leisure and elegance, with the subjects' relaxed poses and colorful attire symbolizing an aspirational lifestyle that has made this image a cultural icon, even inspiring recreations decades later. Slim Aarons (1916–2006), born George Allen Aarons, rose from humble origins and World War II combat photography to become a celebrated chronicler of the elite, vowing post-war to photograph only "attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places," with his works gracing magazines like Town & Country and now preserved in the Getty Images archive. This exquisite reproduction from Soicher Marin is printed on premium luster photo paper using state-of-the-art techniques, ensuring vibrant colors, sharp details, and enduring quality that brings a touch of mid-century sophistication to any space.

Artist Janice Sadler created her painting series in watercolor as an ode to her southern California home. Janice particularly likes working in watercolors, because "the subtle colors intermingle, wash and flow into each other and new colors evolve from it". Janice is inspired by the ocean and local flora. This watercolor series is ideally suited to recreating the visual flavor of the seaside.

Buying some of Dana Gibson’s work is an ideal way to brighten up – literally – your home and make it into something truly unique and personal. The wonderful thing about Dana Gibson is that there really is something for everyone. Although that phrase can seem cliché in some circles, here it is simply a statement of fact. From giclee prints to cushions to light sconces to desk accessories, and so much more besides, you can start your Dana Gibson collection in any room of the house, and grow it from there. It is the color palette that is going to draw you in first, and the gorgeous designs will burst to life as you look closer. This very artist-centric technique will help you to choose the ideal piece or pieces for your home, and any guests and visitors you have will enjoy spending some time dissecting each thing, searching for different pieces of interior design, and generally falling in love with your home, just as you will when you install some art by Dana Gibson. The interior of your home has a direct impact on the rest of your life. If you live in a drab, dreary, impersonal kind of place, you’ll feel much less happy than if you were to add some color and interest and make your space into something that truly shows the world who you are. With Dana Gibson’s work, you can do precisely that. You can bring color into your life; you can bring joy; you can bring vitality. Finally, you’ll have plenty of choices if you’re buying a piece of art created by Dana Gibson. No matter what room in your home you want to decorate, there will be something created by this stylish and modern art that will suit you. And more than one thing, in fact – Gibson’s output of work is impressive, to say the least.

This captivating photograph captures the idyllic leisure atmosphere at the legendary Tahoe Tavern on the shores of Lake Tahoe, California, in 1959. The image showcases the resort during its final golden years as one of America's premier mountain destinations, where bathers enjoyed the perfect combination of alpine grandeur and sophisticated hospitality that defined the Sierra Nevada's most celebrated luxury retreat. Depicting the timeless allure of American mountain resort culture, this photograph embodies the vision of timber baron Duane L. Bliss, who transformed Lake Tahoe into an international playground for discerning travelers seeking "primitive simplicity with twentieth century luxury." The scene represents the culmination of nearly sixty years of refined hospitality, where the Tahoe Tavern served as "the finest hostelry between San Francisco and the Rockies," attracting guests from across the United States and Europe who arrived via the resort's own narrow-gauge railroad and elegant steamship service to experience the unparalleled beauty of America's most spectacular alpine lake. This vibrant photograph, "Keep Your Cool", from January 1978 captures Carmen Alvarez and Frank "Brandy" Brandstetter immersed in a leisurely game of backgammon while seated in the cool waters of an Acapulco swimming pool. The scene perfectly encapsulates the laid-back glamour and playful sophistication of the late 1970s, when luxury vacations blended relaxation with social interaction in exquisite settings. Acapulco, long a magnet for international jet-setters and Hollywood elites, provided the ideal backdrop for such moments of intimate leisure amid sun-soaked, tropical splendor. This image reflects an era when casual elegance and indulgent pastimes were celebrated as part of a cultivated lifestyle. The artwork is framed in a single picture frame with a luxurious gold finish, crafted from quality wood that adds sophistication to any space. I would have preferred to have an all white Matt finish around the perimeter and an off-white....there is a 1/4 inch matt border surrounding the primary edge of the print, followed by another 1/4 inch matt border in green, followed by another approximate 2 1/4 inch matt border in off-white. Although your website indicates only the large 2 1/4 inch matt border without any reference of the 2 smaller borders....It is the presence of the off-white that detracts from the overall look/success of the print. I feel the white border referenced in your website permits the overall print to stand out much more pronounced, as compared to the off-white which tends to mute the Japanese depiction of the village coastline. It's all in the details sadly. Gary. Winnabow, NC. Wed Aug 07 2024

Few landmarks are more emblematic of midcentury glamour than the Beverly Hills Hotel in the 1950s. Captured in 1957, this photograph offers a quintessential view of Hollywood luxury, with vintage cars lined up beneath towering palms and the hotel’s iconic signage gleaming against the California sky. As a favorite retreat for film stars and studio moguls, the Pink Palace on Sunset Boulevard stood as a sanctuary of style, exclusivity, and West Coast sophistication. This image distills the spirit of an era when Beverly Hills was not just a destination but a cultural symbol of elegance and aspiration.
