Inspired by an 18th-century Jean-Baptiste Huet toile in our archive and based on artwork hand-drawn in our studio, Western Toile Fabric is an imaginative fabric that evokes traditional etchings and pays homage to the history of North American animals. Printed on multipurpose linen, this unique medium-scale pattern features creatures that roam the wilderness and beloved domesticated species. It’s suitable for everything from window treatments to wall upholstery.

Trailing floral vines create an open frame around the emperor's musician as birds and peacocks listen intently. This beautiful chinoiserie scene is taken from an 18th-century wallpaper document in the tradition of the draughtsman Jean-Baptiste Pillement who created highly imaginative designs with delicate detail.

Chinoiserie, the western decorative interpretation of Chinese life, is a Scalamandré signature, from classic toilet prints to scenic wallpapers. The classic chinoiserie design gets a thoroughly modern update in this dramatic new scenic print. The hand of the artist is evident here in the graphic, sketch-like drawings of fanciful figures, pagodas, and palm trees. The grand, full-width repeat of Summer Palace gives it the look of a modern mural, in contemporary shades of indigo, charcoal, and soft sky blue. A coordinating 54” wallpaper of the same scale complements each fabric.

Curvaceous and entwined, this floral trailing fabric was designed by William Morris in 1890 and was originally a large-scale block-printed wallpaper. This stylized design has now been re-drawn and adapted as a furnishing fabric that recreates the subtle effects of the transparent inks used to print the original. It is also available as wallpaper.

Cotton blend toile fabric in a botanical printed fabric with an antiqued look and Turkish inspired scene

Chinoiserie, one of the Scalamandre brand’s design hallmarks, is an eighteenth and nineteenth-century European style that depicts highly decorative, fanciful scenes from ancient China. Today, chinoiserie has had a strong resurgence in popularity, adding a colorful and decorative element to a modern interior. Our newest cotton poplin print, Nanjing, is drawn in an easy-to-use medium scale with delicate detail, featuring pagodas, exotic flowers, and whimsical figures. Colorations range from exotic to classical, from bold indigo shades on mandarin orange to quiet grisaille on pale sky blue. Nanjing creates a charming accent for a wide range of rooms as curtains, light upholstery, and cushion covers.

A fashion for formal landscaping in the extensive grounds of European palaces introduced this style of Italianate baroque gardens into the aesthetic of English stately homes. Taken from a 19th-century block-printed wallpaper, this scene is printed on textural linen evocative of an aged tapestry.

Based on an archival print, Nanjing is a modern take on classic chinoiserie motifs, with stylized trees, pagodas, and fretwork fences. Available as a fabric and a wallcovering.

Double-headed parrot tulips and roses appear in weathered form aged yet still beautiful antiqued yet grandiose. This textured stripped-back design mimics the technique of extract printing. This special block printing process removes color to create a lightened effect almost bleached to reveal the design in a new light and printed on a linen union for upholstery use.

Based on a document from the 1950s and rendered in sublime color combinations, this take on traditional chinoiserie is a true showstopper.

This majestic Kalamkari-inspired mural depicts a Tree of Life its branches teeming with flora and fauna. A chameleon, owl, and birds with outstretched wings reveal themselves and the longer you look the more intricate stories unfold. An archival design this mural is available as a three-metre panel complete with borders on both sides.

Pagoda river is a very early design from the Eton Rural collections of the 1910s. At the end of the 19th century and into the early 20th century Chinese and Japanese artwork were popular as products from the East became widely available in Europe for the first time. The original fabric was rotary block printed and the characteristics of the printing technique have been retained in the new design.
