Hand-woven from the root of the makenge bush by Lozi artisans of western Zambia, this wall basket glows in warm natural browns. The fine fiber is woven into detailed concentric and geometric patterning across a shallow, near-flat face. Makenge weaving is a Barotseland tradition passed from mother to daughter, the dense root fiber prized for its strength and the deep earth tones it takes on. Each basket sits close to the wall; hang it with the loop on the back or set a nail through the open weave. Due to the handmade nature of these baskets, slight variations in color, size, and pattern may occur, making each piece truly one-of-a-kind. Size guide: X-Small 11"-12"; Small 15"-16"; Medium 17"-18"; Large 19"-20"; X-Large 21"-22"; XX-Large 23"-24". All measurements are approximate diameters. The sizes group into a warm, layered wall arrangement. We work directly with the small artisan communities who weave them — fair-trade terms and fair wages — from materials that are ethically and sustainably sourced.
