Hand-woven from natural palm and grass, this Munyumbe winnowing basket is marked with a bold black radiating feather-and-zigzag pattern. Traditionally these flat trays were used to winnow grain — tossed to separate seed from chaff — long before they were hung as the striking wall pieces they are today. The black motifs are dyed with natural pigment and woven against the undyed straw. It sits close to the wall; hang it with the loop on the back or set a nail through the open weave. Due to the handmade nature of these baskets, slight variations in color, size, and pattern may occur, making each piece truly one-of-a-kind. Available in a range of sizes, up to a large statement piece, for a striking gallery wall.
