A handcrafted Namji doll from the Namji people of northern Cameroon, where these beaded figures were traditionally carried as symbols of fertility and good fortune before becoming prized as folk art. Built on a carved wood core and wrapped in tight cotton cord, each figure is shaped by hand and available in a cowrie shell hat or a beaded hat — the cowrie shells long a mark of wealth and fertility. Handmade with shells and glass beads applied one at a time, so the color, texture, and small details vary slightly from piece to piece. Set on a small wood base, this tall doll stands about 24 inches tall — a sculptural accent for a shelf, console, mantel, or a grouped gallery display.
