Artist Commentary: Retreat captures the vivid colors of the sky as night falls. La Parguera is a small coastal town on the southwest side of Puerto Rico, known for its mangroves and beautiful homes built on the water's edge. Some of these houses sit along side the mangroves, blending into the scenery providing an insider's view to nature. The natural beauty is interrupted at bottom center by a small table with a book of matches and a "cobra" which is a local favorite when warding away mosquitoes. The artist plays with the idea of forcing solitude by repelling those who can ruin a good time.
