The story of storks in flight carrying new-born babies by their beaks; and delivering them to new parents. This ubiquitous bedtime story in my childhood is etched, sketched, and interpreted as the Lasso. A visual allegory symbolizing a new life of serenity and peace. Waves of rattan or polyethylene strips, carefully bent in varying width and wrapped in a steel frame, simulates the movement of the wind. Drift away in a flight of dreams nestled in comfort and solitude in our luxurious Lasso.

The dependable companion of travelers. Our Llama bar cabinet is made of rattan spokes woven on a metal frame. It features a finely sanded wooden table top and shelf, and two compartments that open on each side. Its upholstered canopy, adorned with dangling tassels, is crafted with built-in wine glass holders.

Our “Bruno” sidechair is an epitome of a forest wolf’s rigid character, offering a soft concave backrest that engulfs you in a safe, cozy embrace of plush fuzzy fabrics. Luring you in for a closer look at nature’s little wonders. The Ginkgo collection is an exquisite sight of the tiniest part of the over-imposing Gingko Biloba tree. Its radial base beams a beautiful pattern of fluid lines, meeting by the mid-section of intersecting fan-shaped leaves. Cast with fiber-reinforced polymer, the Ginkgo tables are the larger-than-life replicas of nature’s captivating details.

Like buds that bloom to a beautiful and colorful bouquet, the Bloom chair is anchored and assembled from the center with a hundred elegant fine folds made to look like large petals. From a favorite storybook that I have read as a child, ‘Baloo,’ the plump, gentle, and easy-going bear from The Jungle Book reminds me of soft and cozy hugs—my tell-tale inspiration for this collection. The art of pressing fresh flowers to create an artistic foliage resembles the fluid lines in our Bouquet—a cluster of Cosmos, etched on a fiber-reinforced-polymer surface. Delicately and carefully carved onto a 2D plane surface, then molded to create a low-relief impression of a simple floral pattern. Our dainty Bouquet coffee table, mounted on a stainless steel base, is a stunning interpretation of an Oshibana, a beautiful bouquet of flowers made to last forever.

The yearning for a quiet and simple life—to be surrounded only by what is essential and meaningful. To contemplate and marvel at nature and create beautiful experiences. “Katachi,” which in Japanese means “form and design,” is a mindset of putting together, and composing all things purposefully and functionally. My travels to Japan made me admire how the people expressed this in every aspect of their daily life. I had the pleasure of learning the Japanese art of knotting and wrapping cloth. It is fascinating how the Japanese artistically wrap a bento box and its contents. This wall installation, “Linya,” is my expression of reverence for all things natural and beautiful. Think of this as my biggest gift to you. A larger-than-life bow drawn from a single line—gracefully merging, continuously connecting, like ribbons overlapping and receding; giving depth and drama as light dances around, casting playful shadows from the layers of intersecting curves and lines of rattan.

In our workshop, high-tech materials and old world craftsmanship meet as expert hands lay carbon filaments along a mold with diamond and scallop patterns, in a seemingly never-ending radial pattern. The Curio installation is inspired by 18th century curio cabinets that are brimming with shelves of strange and otherworldly collections. Curio challenges our perception of the natural world, and the idea of beauty. By stripping these objects and forms from their natural covering, color and texture, and making them hollow, we want to show the viewer that nature, or even our mere perception of it, is still wonderful. In this installation, various objects from the aquatic, avian, mammalian and insect worlds are formed by hand from wire mesh and lit from below by LED lights.

A glimpse of this old world comes to life as we refashion the art of manuscript binding through layers of fabric to design the Parchment collection. Inspired by bound manuscripts, the charm of this armchair is in every crease and fold of inter-layered acrylic fabric, bound by a fabric-wrapped rope, lined with urethane foam, and mounted on a maple and steel base. At Kenneth Cobonpue, our designs speak with emotions. Our Rapunzel easy armchair interlaces style and emotions into every thick upholstered foam tube of braid using a blend of acrylic and cotton. A harmonious flow of movement passing each braid over and under, this soft plait is mounted on a stainless steel frame creating a curvaceous silhouette with rich textures like the delicate tresses of a princess.
