Based on the Catalan vaults he created the Guastavino tile, a "Tile Arch System" patented in the United States in 1885 and used for constructing robust, self-supporting arches and architectural vaults using interlocking terracotta tiles and layers of mortar. Guastavino tile is found in some of New York's most prominent Beaux-Arts landmarks and in major buildings across the United States. It is used in a huge number of architecturally important and famous buildings with vaulted spaces. Guastavino was not the principal architect for most of the projects.

The tile is lovely. The red/orange hue shows a little through the white coloring though. One thing to note is to make sure the grouter knows not to fill in the gaps on edge of the surface. These are gorgeous, and I absolutely love them! They kind of took forever to arrive, but they all came together and all in one piece. There were no broken tiles, not even any cracks, chips, or scratches. I’m very pleased and quite impressed considering they came in packing peanuts (I hate packing peanuts, but they worked). The shade ranges and colors are beautiful. I love the white base that incorporates several shades of grey. The photos are one of each color and from the same box. These are gorgeous! They took forever to arrive, but they came all in one piece. There were no broken tiles, no cracks, chips, or scratches. I’m very pleased and quite impressed, considering they came in packing peanuts (I hate those things, but it worked). The colors are beautiful.
