The Global Rug Collection is a group of rugs that were individually curated over the past fifty years. Each one-of-a-kind rug tells a different story with a specific country of origin, a unique design, and a special moment in time that it was acquired. These classic rugs were curated in Western Asian markets and their predecessors.

Made with hand-knotted wool and originating from Turkey circa 1900-1920, this 13x17 oversized antique rug is an especially rare and regal find in Oushak rugs of its period—a spacious and intricate exemplar of the legendary style, among Rug & Kilim’s most exciting curations of vintage and antique Oushak rugs.On the Design: The field, bathed in a warm, subtly faded terracotta hue, hosts a series of stylized geometric-floral forms, which admirers of the craft and keen eyes may recognize as cypress trees, hyacinths, and a variety of subtle nods to the ‘tree of life’ motif in Oriental rugs. Connoisseurs of this provenance may note what an unusual find this design is among Oushak carpets of any period, let alone this outstanding large size, which clearly marks a very special, possibly aristocratic commission among its origins. The all over patterns further enjoy an impressive range of warm and rich hues, from burgundy and sage green to the warm gold and light pink tones often celebrated in Oushak rugs; known among their many rustic beauties for their more feminine, whimsical take on such traditional, regal designs, though this piece’s marriage of so many unusual elements is absolutely one of a kind. Condition: This antique Oushak palace rug further enjoys good condition, with mild wear throughout the piece consistent with its age and origins, and a newer backing from a previous stewardship with minor restoration—an overall exceptional find and extremely collectible piece alike.

Hand-knotted in silk, this 4x5 Antique Turkish Mihrab rug in gold is a very special piece of rare construction and quality for this provenance. On the design: Connoisseurs will admire this piece featuring a regal design that arguably represents the pinnacle of this Turkish lineage—particularly in its fine details and elegant sensibility. It’s equally collectible for being a rug like few of this Mihrab style and versatile size alike. Keen eyes may further admire a field of gold, borders of beige and especially present, rich red tones underscore a Mihrab pattern, or “prayer rug” representing the gateway to paradise. The Mihrab’s negative space further draws the eye to admire this rug’s archaic charm and its natural play with the texture. This is a smart, yet reverent nod to prayer rugs, and an exemplar of this Shabby Elegance collection. Condition: Good condition, wear consistent with age, but ready for the floor and wall-hanging purposes alike—an extremely collectible, rare find among masterpieces.

Made with handwoven reed and camel leather in Mauritania circa 1950-1960, this 10x13 vintage Tuarage mat is an exceptional new addition to Rug & Kilim’s collection of rare works in this weaving tradition; the legacy of one of the most sought-after Moroccan floor covering provenances among designers and collectors today. On the Design:Admirers of the craft will especially appreciate this mat as a distinct work with its own rich history and unique, masterful craftsmanship.
