The Indoor Outdoor Weaves Collection

Originally a best-selling carpet design from 1875-1880 this indoor-outdoor weave depicts those perfectly proportioned bellflowers on a new slightly larger scale. The tapestry quality shows a box technique in the weave giving a distinct almost cross-stitch design.

Designed initially as wallpaper in 1896 this Morris & Co. weave displays the same distinctive thistle motif. Twisted yarn colors add depth and character to the design a technique that works well across the simple thistle leaf. Morris & Co. fans can enjoy Thistle indoors and out with this iteration.

Taking inspiration from the trove of design treasures within the archive the design studio presents Hammersmith Woven Stripe. Inspired by the framing border of a Morris & Co. carpet woven at Merton abbey in 1883 this design is new from Morris & Co. reflecting the creative ingenuity of William Morris and his contemporaries and revealing a decorative stripe to add to our drawing board.

Blackthorn designed for wallpaper by J.H. Dearle in 1892 was first adapted for machine-printed fabric in 1975 by Sanderson. Now Blackthorn Weave depicts a richly woven design for indoors and out. The weave texture is intricate and piquing interest and plays with differing levels of color. The ribbed quality in the flowerheads adds texture to the blooms and variation between floral display and calming leaves. Rich archival colors meet softer hazy hues across three wonderous colorways.

Wardle inspired by a beautifully embroidered archive document of Indian-style flowerheads crafted by Elizabeth Wardle (an accomplished Arts and Crafts embroiderer) can now step outside as a weave beautiful and sophisticated with its fanning florals. Two soft neutral grounds feel classically Arts & Crafts while the Indigo ground adds depth. Pairs well with Blackthorn and Thistle.

Originally a monochrome precursor to Morris' much-loved strawberry thief this evocation of the English hedgerow from 1882 features thrushes in a vertical entwine of flowers and foliage. Bird and anemone weave delights in this same charming entanglement but with the added tactility of a robust and chunky weave. Perfect for the outdoors which it so wonderfully represents.
