A little background history: Originally designed in the 1940s for the Gino of Capri restaurant, lovingly known as "Ginos" by New Yorkers, Scalamandre restored the Zebras wallcovering in the upper east side institution in the 1970s after it was destroyed in a fire. Flora Scalamandre, wife of Franco, free-handed the signature motif that would come to be known as the iconic Scalamandre zebras. The pattern is celebrated the world over in design and in the movies. It was featured in the "Royal Tannebaums" and "Mightly Aphrodite". The pattern design has grown in color offerings and mediums.

We love the whimsy of the rectangle lucite zebra tray. The Scalamandre zebra pattern in the color of blue denim is your fun serving tray and/or gift for the adventurer in us all. A little background history: In 1945, Flora Scalamandre was asked by a friend in New York, Gino Circiello, who was opening a small restaurant to develop a fun, animated wallpaper for his new restaurant Gino's. He fell in love with the whimsical repeat of the prancing zebras that she presented to him. The motif was instantly put into repeat and printed on wallpaper in the color of the rich marinara sauce. It's still a hit today! Scalamandre offers patterns in fabric and wallpaper in multiple colors.

Palampores or tree-of-life patterns have origins in India, where the exotic designs were hand-painted and mordant dyed--then exported to Europe and England for use as elaborate bed hangings and curtains. Scalamandre's timeless tree-of-life print, Pondicherry, is offered in rich blues on cream crackled porcelain for today's classic interior. The grand scale of the exotic tree is softened with finely detailed flowers and foliage and is accented with small birds and animals. This is typical of this historic and favored fabric design. The Pondicherry quatrefoil planter is scaled for four, 6" diameter plants such as orchids for an easy, yet perfect centerpiece. Place the four plants in the shaped planter, then add the custom florist detail by adding moss as filler for a finishing touch. You may also place a single plant for an elegant statement on the dining table. We also love to use the planters for entertaining. Simply, layer a bubble cushion on the bottom, then adds cubed ice. The planter can then be used for wine or a drinks chiller on the sideboard.
