These stools are much nicer in person than in the photos. The finish and overall look feel more substantial and refined. They’re actually quite comfortable even without the pillows, which surprised me. Since they’re primarily for show and occasional use in our home, I prefer the cleaner look without ties. That said, when we have company staying and the stools get more frequent use, I’ll likely add the pillows for extra comfort. These are lovely stools and I am really pleased with the design and comfort. However, I quickly learned that the lightly oiled finish was insufficient to protect against ordinary kitchen splashes and spills. I did not want to send them back, but to avoid the disappointment of difficult-to-remove stains later I applied two coats of clear matte polyacrylic.
